Hyper Light Drifter - Colossalcon 2014 by italktotherain Hyper Light Drifter - Colossalcon 2014 by italktotherain
Cosplayer: Me
Series: Hyper Light Drifter
Photographer: Vagabond Photography www.facebook.com/avagaphoto?fr…

I'm really happy with how this costume turned out, I was nervous about how it would turn out and whether I would finish it in time, but this may be the most pleased I've ever been with a costume.  I can't wait to pull it out again and I can't wait to see the rest of the shots!!!!

I worked on this costume from mid-April right up until my 5 am photoshoot on Saturday

If you haven't heard of the game, check it out here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1…

So excited!!!! I'll have more pictures up as soon as I get them from the photographer >.<

Awsum cosplay, man! It is hard to believe it is even cosplay. (dem colors) You did so well that you look like you came straight out of the game. So kudos to you!

If you don't mind me asking, what material is the sword blade made of? I recently got the urge to purchase/create a costume of the Drifter, but I've been wondering how I'd make/obtain the sword.

And you look AWESOME by the way just thought I'd mention that :D

Thank you! I'm really glad people are starting recognize this costume, the game should be amazing >.<

As for the sword, I used layers of acrylic to build it and then there are hand-soldered LEDs in the middle.  I don't have many build notes on it, I really struggled with the construction.  If you want to know more specifics I would be happy to share and take a look around to see if I have more in-depth pictures, but there were parts of it that I wasn't totally satisfied with (like the paint job, I painted the inside so that it would still feel smooth, but the acrylic glue was so caustic that it actually corroded the paint and I had to do another layer on the outside so it looks really uneven around the edges).  If I were you, I would maybe not try to use the same materials I did, it was really difficult and I had access to some tools like a bandsaw that were really important for cutting the acrylic and whatnot.  If I were to do it again, I might have a solid base and then use light panels on the outside (never worked with the stuff, but I can't imagine that being harder than this was) OR using a really vibrant glow paint.

I'm totally happy to share more details on my construction though if you would like them!

No problem! I can't wait for the game either! :D

I think that's enough for the detail, but more of them wouldn't hurt if you happen to stumble across them! And between you and me, I actually SUCK at construction/building/crafting objects, I'm more of a 2D artist myself. ^^; But even so I still have the desire to overcome my suckiness and show my passion for this soon-to-be awesome game!
